Owlets

I have been having great fun working on these masks that I found on Sew Mama Sew's Blog site.  The tutorial is from their Guest, Delilahiris Designs.  You can find more about her and her wonderful designs at DelilahIris.com.

I no longer have someone at home to make costumes for, but I could not resist these cuties!
.
This is the first one I made.  I liked it so much I started another!  I'm glad I did because I switched the backing felt so that the lighter one now has dark brown felt that peeks out around the fawn color.
It adds some depth to the mask, don't you think?

The fawn color does not show up as well on this darker mask, the sizes were too much the same.  If you want to do this on purpose, I suggest cutting the back side a bit larger all around. I think even if the colors match, it looks feathery.

The only other suggestion I have is when you are sewing the inner eye lashes, wait until the whole mask is assembled.  That way, you catch all the layers of felt around the eye.  I think this makes it more comfortable for the wearer.
