WIP Maples

I have finished my version of the Modern Maple.  Pattern here.  (Sorry about the poor lighting)!   I really like how the different sized  leaves give a falling effect to the composition!

The perfect backing material, S'more Love!  The colors AND trees!

I even got the binding all ready.  Kaffe Fasset stripes!

All ready to get quilted.

Am I the only one who saves these little triangles from the binding? 

I just can't bear to throw them away! They are so cute!

Someday I will find the perfect use for them.

Big Blue Star

I am finally getting around to posting pictures of my Big Blue Star.  This is my second big star made from the pattern by Jeni Baker from In Color Order.

I just love these fabrics!
 Three of the fabrics are from the Le Bouquet Francais line by French General and one is from Indigo by Moda. The background is Snowbirds- Dots.

The wonderful quilting was done by Sister Beth.

A New Year

I love the beginning of a new year. Anything seems possible.  It is even possible that I will finish all my UFO's! ha ha.  I mean to, but then, the lure of the new creation takes hold!

I was inspired by this fabric that has been in my stash for a while, Bohemian Soul by Art Gallery Fabrics. I had a stach of solids on my work table, and thought, "wouldn't this make a great background for a Modern Maple quilt"!?

I had downloaded the pattern from lark craft and looked at the one from Elsie's Girl Blog.  Shelly had filled in all the squares with different size maple leaves.  I liked that idea of different sizes, but still want to add negative space to give the leaves a falling effect.

My other change to this pattern was to appliqué the stems. I think it makes them more graceful.

The leaves are made with Kaffe Fasset shot cotton. This fabric has such a great shimmer!

 These are the 6 1/2" blocks. They are so cute!

 The 9 1/2" blocks have a 2" border to make a 12 1/2" block. (Thanks Sister Beth)!

The quilt so far.

Now I just need to decide whether to get more colors, or make each color in three sizes?

Flowering Snowball

I am participating in Molly Flanders Flowering Snowball-Along.  I have admired this pattern since I first saw it on her blog on June 20, 2011 so I was excited to join in!

First the material pull, mostly from my stash. Lots of oldies as well as a few new fabrics; Bonnie and Camille, American Jane, PBJ by Basic Grey, Glenna Haley, Sweetwater, Riley Blake to name a few!

For the "petals" I used an old Robert Kaufman neutral and Kona Snow.

I cut four "blades" of each print and really tried to put them into a scrappy pattern, but I just could not do it! So I made "two squares" where the blades met.

I am still calling this a WIP because I just found a mistake in the middle of the quilt!  I know I'm going to have to fix it. grrrr.

I really enjoyed this pattern. The curves were very gentle and easy to sew.  This is the largest block I have made (12" finished).  It made the piecing go so fast!

Travel Sewing Bag

I finished this sewing bag just in time for summer sewing!  The pattern is Noodlehead's open wide zipper pouch, middle size.  I used this spool pattern from Cindy from Hyacinth Quilt Designs.and lots of scraps!  I even managed to re use some of the Essex linen from the feather debacle. (There is still plenty left).

See the little needle embroidered on with silver metallic thread!

Lining also a scrap from the stash.

Her work is so pretty.  I added a pocket for my scissors.

 All set so I can finish these propellers!

Not Again!!

Dear Beth,
I have been swept up again in an internet block craze!  This time it is the Economy Block.  I first saw it here on Rita's blog, Red Pepper Quilts, but the blocks were too small, 5", and I knew I wouldn't have enough to make a decent size quilt. It was easy to say no.  Then, Amanda, at Crazy Mom Quilts, enlarge the blocks! I couldn't resist.  But, like so many other times, Scrappy Trip Around the World, to name just one, I started gleefully cutting before thinking.  Now I have 12 blocks done, and I have gone through my scraps and have started hitting my stash.

 

But, I just don't have that much.  So, how about joining me?  I figure if we each do 24 squares, we would have enough for a charity quilt.  I used the Crazy Mom Quits tutorial and trimmed to blocks to 8.5"

Which fabric do you like for the final round, lime green or coral? I like them both but can't decide.

St. Louis 16 Patch

Here is my version of skburton's St. Louis 16 patch, Bohemian Baby.

I wanted to make something simple and quick as an antidote to the Steam Punk pattern I am working on (more of that later).  This was a fun pattern that went together fast!  I wanted colorful and used some great fat quarters from my stash: Kaffe Fasset floral and dark blue shot cotton, Trade Winds and Summerhouse by Lily Ashbury and Wrenky by Malori Wells. The light pink is a Moda solid.

The back is two florals (Ruby, I think) by Bonnie and Camille.  I was happy to use fabric from my stash.  I tend to hoard fabrics I like!  Linking up to Crazy Mom Quilts Finish it up Friday!
